Exercise of the Week: Cable Torso Rotations

This week’s exercise is the Cable Torso Rotation.  I have been wanting to increase my core and rotational strength for jiu jitsu and started adding these into my core routine.  The variation I show in the video is a slow and rather heavy version.  The opposite of someone doing a fast set of Russian Twists.  You can also do them explosively with lower weight.

The key is to rotate through your core and not overpower the movement with your arms.  You should feel the fibers in your core twisting and turning, begging for mercy as you rotate out and back.  The hands should stay right in the center of your chest.  Allow the head to follow the hands.  Since this is a core rotation movement, resist allowing the hips to move with the trunk.

This exercise can transfer over well to a ton of sports and basic, functional core strength.
