Energize Your Day in a NEW Way!

You have heard the saying “America Runs on Dunkin” from Dunkin’ Donuts, meaning that America is fueled by coffee.  I completely agree and think it is a great slogan (and their coffee is good!) from a marketing standpoint and I think it has truth.  However, as much as I enjoy coffee myself, it can become a “trap”.  A never ending cycle of cup after cup of coffee to get through the day and not feeling any more energized or focused from it.  In fact, it is probably working against you.

So I have been trying to find a way to break the cycle and came across the concoction of warm water with salt and lemon (or lime) first thing in the morning.  It’s not a new thing, as always I’m late getting on the bandwagon, but maybe new to you or you never tried it.

Here’s how I make it:

  1. Heat 10 ounces of water in the microwave until it’s warm.
  2.  Slice a fresh, lemon in half and squeeze the half of lemon into the warm water.
  3. Add 1/2 tsp of high quality Pink Himalayan sea salt to my warm lemon water and stir it all together.

* Do not use table salt, the quality of the salt is very important.

The Benefits:

1.  Immune System Booster – Lemons contain vitamin C (fights off colds) and potassium (stimulates brain and nerve function, along with controlling your blood pressure)

2. Balances PH Levels – The American diet is very acidic.  Lemons are an alkaline food.  An alkaline body helps to maintain good health and fight inflammation.

3. Aid in Digestion – The warm water stimulates the GI tract and keeps things moving along.  The lemon helps remove toxins from withing the GI tract.

4.  Clear skin – Vitamin C can help prevent wrinkles and blemishes on the skin by purging toxins from the blood keeping the skin clear

5.  Weight Loss Aid – Lemons are high in pectin fiber, helping you fight hunger cravings.  Also to help maintain a more alkaline diet as mentioned earlier.  Psychologically, by starting the day off to a good start will keep you making better choices through out the rest of the day.  Keeps you away from the sugary coffee or drink in the morning, only causing you to be hungry faster and repeat the cycle.

6. Natural Diuretic – Lemons increase rate of urination, helping to release and flush toxins out more rapidly

7. Hydrates the Lymph System – After sleeping 6-8 hours or more your body is dehydrated.  A glass of lemon water first thing in the morning helps prevent dehydration and adrenal fatigue. When your body is dehydrated, or deeply dehydrated (adrenal fatigue), it can’t perform all of it’s proper functions, which leads to toxic buildup, stress, constipation and the list goes on.

Your adrenals happen to be two small glands that sit on top of your kidneys and along with your thyroid, they create energy. They also secrete important hormones, including aldosterone. Aldosterone is a hormone secreted by your adrenals that regulates water levels and the concentration of minerals, like sodium, in your body, helping you stay hydrated. Your adrenals are also responsible for regulating your stress response.

  • Food absorption: Proper mineral balance in food and water  helps the body absorb and assimilate food and water better.
  • Cell Cleansing– The negatively charged ions in real salt and the trace mineral concentration let it cross into cells and pull toxins from them.
  • Blood Pressure– Some evidence shows that it may actually helps regulate blood pressure (not raise it) when taken in the correct amounts.
  • Heart Health- The negative ions in real salt help stabilize an irregular heart beat and support electro-chemical reactions in the body.
  • pH Balance- It is alkalizing and may help balance the body’s pH.

  • Nerve function– The electrical properties in real salt help support proper nerve function and communication throughout the body.
  • Water Content of Body– Just as an IV must be in the proper electrolyte concentration to be absorbed, the trace mineral in real salt help the body naturally regulate the amount of water and trace minerals it needs.
  • Sexual Health– The same hormone-supporting properties of salt make it supportive of healthy libido and sexual function

  • Oral Health– its trace minerals can be helpful for oral health and for remineralizing teeth. Swishing with a salt water mixture daily can help improve oral health.

Now I am not throwing coffee under the bus.  A little caffeine is good and black coffee is a great zero calorie drink. It is the sugar, flavoring, and creamer that turns it into an energy sucking downward spiral.  This is an alternative to have energy without the sugary morning.

Some people swear by this, others claim it is too much salt.  So *disclaimer* consult with your doctor before trying any type of new health regimen.
