Do You Even Read, Bro? 2/29/16

Happy Monday everyone!

I hope you all had a great weekend and now it’s time to get back to work in the workplace and gym.

To start things off the winner of the February Give Away of Alpha Brain Instant from Onnit is Darren K.  So check your email Darren for an email from me so I can get your info and get that sent out to you ASAP.

I love using the landmine in my own training and the variety, creativity, and multi-joint movement you can do with it.  I posted some videos to my Instagram account this week show the 1-Arm Half Kneeling Press with a progression to the 1-Arm Split Squat with Press.

The setup for the 1-Arm Half Kneeling Press is to be set up in a kneeling position with one knee on the floor and the other knee in a 90 degree angle.  Make sure you are on your back toe and squeeze the glute for stability.  Keep your core neutral and drawn in, press the barbel up and slowly in controlled manner return down to the starting position.  Keep the elbow away from the body to target the shoulder stabilizers more.

The progression to the 1-Arm Split Squat and Press is to push up through the heel of the front leg while simultaneously pressing the weight up. Slowly return to the starting position.  You can return back to dead stop on the floor or stop just short of the floor to keep tension on the muscle.

Article from the Archives…

Glute work, Glute work, Glute work.   I get so many new clients with not only weak glutes, but very little glute activation.  It is normally one of the first things I build up and strengthen for them so they can do more movements and get their body in an overall better balance.  This old blog post gives you the five movements that you need to be doing for strong glutes.
